The HERA "Environmental Health" team develops and supports research in the North and the South on environmental epidemiology in the general population and in patient cohorts, in a context of climate change, potentially in connection with the RISE team. The aim is to protect populations from environmental risks that can cause preventable diseases and disabilities, which can amplify premature deaths or the impact of certain infections.
This team aims to plan, direct and coordinate a public health research program based on an "exposome" type approach and a dynamic population approach throughout life to study the health impact of exposure to different agents, by integrating an analysis of social and genetic interactions with the environment, in accordance with priority 1 (objective 5) of the Inserm Strategic Plan.
The objectives are particularly aimed at protecting the health of people exposed to increased/higher risk from environmental risks, such as certain professionals, people belonging to vulnerable groups, children, pregnant women, patients suffering from chronic illnesses.
An environmental toxicology component with an innovative vitro model provides arguments of biological plausibility to the epidemiological findings.
