This project seeks to understand the mechanisms involved in severe malaria. These mechanisms are largely based on the interactions between host-pathogen interactions involving parasite virulence factors and immunological dysfunctions, all of which can be exacerbated by particular behavior (inappropriate self-treatment) and a favorable biological environment. This project deploys complex cell biology methods and OMICS approaches.
